Join me for a deep dive into the life and design of one of the 20th century's most overlooked women-- Modernist pioneer and avante-garde fashionista, Sonia Delaunay. Synonymous with Jazz Age Paris, Sonia's work ushered in a new aesthetic for women who wanted comfort and color, not just in their clothing, but in their homes. Pulling from the bright peasant costumes from her native Russia, Sonia painted canvases and created textiles designs that would come to epitomize the new age. Together we will time travel to a lost age to study and recreate Sonia's energetic geometric collages and her lilting pattern designs that are all but forgotten.
In this class you will be given a series of design prompts to help you create compositions for your rug making projects that will echo the feeling and flavor of Sonia's life's work. All you'll need is drawing materials to follow along. The class will be held over ZOOM, and will be recorded for those who can't attend in person. Everyone who signs up for the class receives the recording, so that he or she can watch it as often as you'd like, anytime.
